A Conversation on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
What's Next: Making Sports More Equitable
An ongoing series exploring how to create equity and implement real change in the sports industry.
The Non-Hispanic White US population is diminishing. By 2040, the population in the three largest ethnic groups is projected to meet or exceed the population of Non-Hispanic Whites in the United States. The buying power of multicultural consumers is over 4 trillion with Latin—1.5 trillion, Black – 1.3 trillion, and Asian – 1 trillion.
A diverse and inclusive workforce drives a 59% increase in creativity, innovation & openness, and a 38% better assessment of consumer demand. Gender and ethnically diverse organizations outperform their peers by +25% and +36% respectively.
According to Glassdoor, 67% of job seekers value workplace diversity when evaluating an opportunity, and more than 50% of current employees want their workplace to do more to increase diversity.
A CONVERSATION ON DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION
MSME’s goal is to share insights and opportunities to support the sports world in creating real and long-lasting change towards equity. As we’ve seen in recent years, DE&I (diversity, equity, and inclusion) work within sports firms has been a driver of the change we seek. Strategic DE&I management can help organizations and businesses create a safe and sustainable culture and work environment. This wave of DE&I work is key in creating this long-lasting change we hope to see in the future of sports.
These conversations will explore what DE&I looks like in sports and consulting organizations. We will highlight where we stand with implementing DE&I strategies, teams and programs within the sports industry today, where we need to be, and how this kind of work is becoming the gold standard within the sports business world. We will discuss the importance of new DE&I opportunities within teams and leagues, the types of initiatives that are being created through this kind of management, and how to keep the momentum going. We hope to highlight the importance of DE&I and demonstrate how these ideas help in creating a level playing field.
